YEREVAN, May 8 (Noyan Tapan). Within the framework of the World Bank's "Repair
of Motorways, Railroads and Bridges" 2003-2004 loan program, eight bridges
are to be repaired, four of which on the Yerevan-Meghri highway. As Assistant
Director General of the "Armenian Motorways" CJSC Hakob Petrossian
told Noyan Tapan, 60 kilometers of roads will also be repaired this year in
the Gyumri-Bavra, Gyumri-Spitak and Vanadzor-Stepanavan sections.
According to Petrossian, the repairs will start
in late May. The aforementioned program was launched in 2001 due to the co-funding
of the World Bank loan of $40 million and the Armenian government's $6.4 million
contribution. During two years, the Gyumri-Bavra and Kapan-Kajaran sections
of a total length of 40 kilometers were repaired, as well as the 48-kilometer-long
passage of the Yerevan-Sevan highway, the entire Yerevan-Ashtarak road, and
some sections of the Yerevan-Meghri road. Repairs have also been carried out
on the Yerevan-Echmiadzin-Armavir and Margara-Echmiadzin-Ashtarak-Vanadzor roads.
