Restoration of Armenian Railroad
Through WB Crediting Program

YEREVAN, May 21 (Noyan Tapan). It is expected to purchase fortification details worth $3.9 mln this year within the framework of the "Motorways, Railroads and Bridges Restoration" crediting program carried out by the World Bank in Armenia since 2001. Alik Bakhtamian, the Director of the Program Implementation Office, told NT's correspondent that besides, technical re-equipment of depots will be carried out, due to which any type of rolling stock will be possible to repair.

According to Alik Bakhtamian, work of $3 mln has already been carried out within the framework of the program: simultaneously with the Yerevan-Ayrum railroad, a 310-km-long optic-fiber cable has been installed. It will make it possible to improve the quality of telecommunication between Yerevan and Ayrum. Besides, rails and other relevant details worth $1.5 mln have been purchased. The import of the purchased stuff will be continued this year. It was mentioned that the total cost of the World Bank crediting program, including $15 mln allocated for railroad repairs. It is expected that the program will be completed in 2004.
