ARMENPRESS, MAR 27, 2003. Armenian hydro-meteorological
and ecology monitoring agency's data said that the level of lake Sevan has been
1896.88 meters (over 500 million cubic meters of water) by March 26, which is
by 49 cm higher against the same date last year.
The head of the agency Genadi Kojoian said that the ice on the shores of the
lake and the snow in the water collecting basin are still preserved. "The
raise in the flows of the rivers feeding the lake is anticipated in April-May,
when the snow will melt faster due to the activation of the sun," said
he.
According to him, the increase will positively
impact the restoration of the lake's fauna and the re-creational processes.
Beside creating an optimally stable situation in the lake it will improve the
physical-chemical attributes of water too, he said. According to the agency's
data, 26.5 million cubic meters of water (equivalent to 2 cm increase in the
lake's level) flowed by Arpa-Sevan tunnel into the lake this year, from January
by now, against the 26,23 million cubic meters for the same period last year.
