Catholicos Karekin II to Consecrate
Armenian Church in Siberia


The head of the Armenian Church, Catholicos Karekin II, will travel May 15 to one of the biggest cities in the Russian Siberia, Krasnoyarsk, to consecrate the Saint Sarkis Armenian Church. It is the first Armenian Church built in Siberia and it will likewise be the visit of the head of Armenian Church there.

The need for the church arouse several years ago with the increasing number of Armenians, who chose Siberia as their new residence. According to different estimations, there is some 45,000 strong Armenian community in Krasnoyarsk province. The church was built on donations from several local rich Armenians.

The Armenian delegation that will travel to Siberia also includes other senior clergymen, Armenian ambassador to Russia, heads of non-governmental organizations and members of the Russian parliament.
