The promises to built sugar factory in Shirak are still not coming true, though the protocol about construction of the factory was ceremonially put into the ground on the territory near the village "Maisyan" in 2000. "Silvi Sugar" concern was going to implement this program with total cost of 80 mln dollars. The implementation of the project would greatly promote the production of sugar-beet not only in Shirak region, but also in Lori. Two years have passed, but it is still unclear when the factory will be finally constructed. It is noteworthy, however, that after two years another promise to build the sugar factory emerged. The president of the "Armenia Sugar Corporation" Brus Tasker assures, that if unexpected problems do not emerge, the construction will start in spring of the year 2003. He said, that the future factory will have a planned capacity of producing 125 thousand tons of sugar annually. If the project is implemented fully, 2.5 to 3 thousand people will work in sugar production's agricultural and industrial branches.
