EASTER
PROGRAMS
We just completed our Easter programs throughout Armenia and
Karabagh.
Thousands of children and their parents participated in AMAA
organized Easter programs, held in over 30 locations, where
the powerful message of the resurrection was "preached" through
drams, music and poetry.
AMAA organized special Easter visitations to the homes of elderly
people living alone, and to needy families. Small groups of
Sunday school children, accompanied by their teachers visited
four hundred such homes to sing, pray and encourage with the
resurrection message. In addition, the families were given gifts
of food items. This experience brought great joy to the families
that were visited. The elderly, who were pleasantly surprised
by the visit, were very grateful for this expression of love.
Most important though, the Sunday School children were greatly
encouraged by the fact that they were able to channel God's
love to these needy, suffering people and bring smiles to their
otherwise sad faces.
APRIL
24 GENOCIDE MEMORIAL DAY
On
April 24 members of the Armenian Evangelical Churches (The Evangelical
Church of Armenia, The Armenian Evangelical Baptist Church and
The Pentecostal Church) together with the church leaders visited
the Genocide memorial monument to pay their respect and to lay
flowers to the memory of the one and a half million martyrs
of the genocide of the 1915.
THE
EVANGELICAL THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY OF ARMENIA
Esther Yeung (librarian at Fuller Theological Seminary) and
David Holifield (librarian at Azusa Pacific University) visited
Armenia for helping enhance the services of the Evangelical
Theological Seminary of Armenia library. They shared some methods
of systematizing the literature of the library, as well as introduced
some modern techniques of using computers, specifically the
Internet, for receiving information and literature.
The
Theological Seminary also had guest lecturers, Rev. Grigor Haleblian,
lecturing on "Church Growth" and Dr. Gerard Seigwalt, lecturing
on "The Holy Spirit".
VISITORS
FROM ABROAD
Some members of the Armenian Evangelical Church of France visited
Armenia under the leadership of Rev. Gilbert Leonian. This was
a great opportunity for them to get acquainted with the work
and projects of the AMAA and of Hope For Armenia of France.
These type of visits enable people from outside of Armenia to
see everything with their own eyes, to get a closer feel of
it all and to support the work.
AMAA
President, Mr. Andy Torigian and AMAA Executive Director, Rev.
Jirair Sogomian and his wife Lorraine visited Armenia for a
one-week period, starting April 30, 2001.
PRAYER REQUESTS
We covet your prayers for the following:
- Please pray that the resurrection of Easter would be a great
victory for the Armenian nation, as we celebrate the 1700th
anniversary of the adoption of Christianity as state religion
in Armenia
- Pray for all the children and teenagers, who heard the Easter
message during the different celebrations in Sunday schools
- Pray for a spirit of understanding to be present between Armenia
and all its neighboring countries
- Pray for the students and lecturers of the Evangelical Theological
Seminary of Armenia
